International jewelry designer Sophia Forero has designed an exclusive necklace that benefits Audubon Arkansas and highlights the non-profit organization’s work of connecting people to nature through a mutual love and respect for birds.

The handcrafted necklace features the Chimney Swift, an agile, boomerang-shaped bird that uses chimneys for nesting and roosting. Forero and her husband Mauricio of Naperville, IL, designed the pendant, which was carved out of wax, hand-casted into fine silver, and finally adorned with green onyx to evoke Audubon Arkansas’s preservation of the natural world. The pendant is strung on fully adjustable leather.

Dr. Dan Scheiman, Bird Conservation Director of Audubon Arkansas, explained the inspiration behind the necklace: “The Chimney Swift is a priority bird for Audubon Arkansas. The species is declining as the number of open chimneys declines. Audubon’s Center offers four freestanding towers build specifically for swifts to use. The profile and plight of the Chimney Swift is further raised through exhibits and in the design of the entry gate to Audubon’s wildlife observation trail.”

Audubon Arkansas engages communities in responsible stewardship to protect and conserve our native environment for future generations. Audubon’s legacy is built on science, education, advocacy, and on-the-ground conservation. The Little Rock Audubon Center is an urban nature center where visitors and students can discover nature along five miles of trails through diverse habitats.

For each $90 necklace purchased, $40 will benefit Audubon Arkansas. The necklace is available for purchase at
