What is Drain Smart?

Drain Smart is a public art and environmental education program that uses murals to communicate the link between street litter, storm drains, and water quality. The art makes people think twice before disposing of anything down a storm drain. 

How to Apply

Please provide a sketch (min size 8 1/2 x 11 inches) of your design idea with a completed application, a brief concept description with the title of your piece, and a short artist’s bio. Download application below for full details. Artists will receive needed supplies and a personal stipend of $150 for their work.

Project Timeline

  • Application & Sketch Due: Wednesday, March 15
  • Artists will be notified: Saturday, April 1
  • Orientation Meeting & Paint pick-up for selected artists: Sunday, April 9 at 3 pm OR Tuesday, April 11 at 5:30 pm (Must RSVP to one, if chosen)
  • All art to be completed by: Monday, June 5
